Senescent Cell Clearance

Senescent "zombie" cells accumulate with age and drive inflammation. In the same healthy-older-adult research, hyperbaric oxygen reduced the number of senescent immune (T) cells — the first senolytic effect shown from a non-pharmacological intervention. The result is promising but early, and not an established anti-ageing treatment.

37%

Reduction in senescent T-cells

Mechanism

HBOT induces selective apoptosis of senescent cells through ROS-mediated signaling pathways. Senescent cells accumulate with age and drive the 'inflammaging' phenotype associated with age-related diseases.
