Collagen Production & Skin Health
Hyperbaric oxygen has been studied for its effects on ageing skin. A small trial in 13 older men reported increased collagen density and longer elastic fibres in skin biopsies after 60 sessions, and a rat study found more collagen III in healing wounds. The human evidence rests on one small study from a single group; this is research, not an established cosmetic treatment.

Mechanism
The skin-ageing trial attributed the changes to new blood-vessel formation and clearance of senescent cells in the dermis; elastic-fibre density and thickness did not change. In the rat study, HBOT raised collagen III in healing wounds but did not reduce wound size. Effects on joints or other connective tissue have not been studied.
