Decompression Sickness

Decompression sickness ("the bends") occurs when dissolved nitrogen forms bubbles in the blood and tissues after rapid pressure changes, affecting divers and compressed-air workers. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the FDA-approved primary treatment: pressure shrinks the bubbles while oxygen accelerates nitrogen elimination and re-oxygenates affected tissue.
